Lead Software Engineer, Test Development

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE JOB
The Lead Software Engineer, Test Development is a key technical leadership role responsible for driving the design, development, and optimization of software systems used for testing optical transceiver products.
This role plays a critical part in supporting the entire product lifecycle—from early-stage R&D and New Product Introduction (NPI) to high-volume manufacturing—by delivering robust, scalable, and efficient test software solutions.
The position requires a combination of hands-on technical expertise, system-level thinking, and team leadership, with a strong focus on improving test efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and product quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY
Test Software Development & Execution

• Design, develop, and implement test software for optical transceiver products across all development phases (R&D, NPI, and mass production).
• Develop and maintain:
  • Test scripts and automation frameworks
  • Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for operators and engineers
  • Instrument drivers for hardware control and data acquisition
• Ensure software reliability, scalability, and maintainability across multiple platforms and test stations.

Technical Leadership & Project Management

• Lead and coordinate test software development activities from concept to deployment.
• Define development priorities, timelines, and resource allocation aligned with project milestones.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for software-related test solutions.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with:
  • R&D engineers to understand product design and test requirements
  • Test engineers to define validation strategies
  • Manufacturing teams to ensure smooth production integration
• Translate business and engineering requirements into effective technical solutions.

Test System Optimization & Innovation

• Continuously improve test system performance by:
  • Enhancing test logic and algorithm efficiency
  • Reducing test cycle time (HPU – Hours Per Unit)
  • Increasing throughput and system stability
• Optimize software platforms to reduce cost and improve productivity.
• Contribute to firmware, automation, and core algorithm development when required.

Software Architecture & Standardization

• Develop and implement standardized frameworks and reusable modules for test software.
• Establish best practices for:
  • Coding quality
  • Documentation
  • Version control and release management
• Ensure consistency and scalability across global test platforms.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

• Lead, mentor, and coach software engineers and new team members.
• Conduct technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
• Collaborate with global engineering teams to align technical standards and share solutions.

REQUIREMENTS

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Communication Engineering or a related discipline; advanced qualifications are preferred. Candidates with suitable professional experience and a Bachelor's degree may also be considered.
• Minimum 5 years of software development experience, preferably in: Manufacturing test environments; Optical or electronic product testing.
• Proven experience in developing and deploying test systems/software platforms.
• Good command of English (both written and spoken).
• International training: 3 – 6 months in China, followed by a mandatory bonding agreement
• Strong programming proficiency in C# , VB (Visual Basic), Python.
• Hands-on experience in: Test script development, GUI development, Instrument control and driver development.
• Solid understanding of: Test automation systems, Hardware-software integration.
• Experience in firmware or embedded systems development is a strong advantage.
