ENGINEERING LEAD/MANAGER - SUSTAINING

Location: Binh Duong, Viet Nam (shuttle bus transfer form HCMC & Dong Nai) Working time: Mon – Friday, 8:00 - 16:30

Summary:

• Lead the sustaining engineering function for in-production switch mode power supply products, ensuring reliability, cost, quality, and compliance across the product lifecycle.
• Own change control, component obsolescence management, field issue resolution, and continuous improvement in partnership with Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Product Management.
• Balance day-to-day support of production and customers with medium-term design updates and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and develop a team of 5+ sustaining engineers; set priorities, allocate resources, and embed best practices.
• Drive component lifecycle management (EOL/PCN), alternate/second-source qualification, and value engineering for cost, quality, and availability.
• Own engineering change management (ECN/ECO), configuration control, and documentation (BOMs, drawings, test specs) with strong release discipline in PLM/ERP.
• Resolve field and factory issues via structured root cause analysis (8D, Fishbone, 5-Whys) and drive corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
• Maintain and improve product compliance and safety certifications; coordinate with external test labs as needed.
• Oversee reliability improvements (DFMEA/PFMEA, MTBF updates), design updates, and V&V test plans; ensure backward compatibility where required.  Support manufacturing test strategies (DFT), yield and scrap reduction, and process controls with Operations.
• Guide PCB/electrical redesigns, schematic updates, and layout reviews; ensure documentation accuracy and traceability.
• Track and report KPIs (field failure rates, change cycle time, cost savings, obsolescence risk) and communicate status to stakeholders.
• Partner with suppliers on quality and alternatives; perform technical reviews and support PPAP/FAI where applicable.
• Provide technical input for customer escalations and key accounts; support RMA and service teams.

Qualifications 

• BEng/MEng/MSc in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
• 7+ years in electrical/electronics product development or sustaining engineering; 2-4+ years people leadership.
• Strong analogue/Power/digital fundamentals; able to read schematics and guide PCB updates. ECAD familiarity (e.g., Altium, OrCAD) and SPICE/simulation experience preferred.
• Proven experience with ECN/ECO, PLM (e.g., Agile, Arena) and ERP (e.g., SAP).
• Hands-on with failure analysis and validation (environmental, EMC, safety).  Familiarity with IEC/UL standards (e.g., 62368-1; 60601-1 for medical; CISPR/EN EMC).
• Proficiency with FMEA, 8D, DOE, and statistical analysis.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 - Office tools, Teams, SharePoint.
• Excellent cross-functional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management.

Nice to Have 

• Familiar with SMPS topologies: flyback/forward, resonant/LLC, PFC front-ends, multipliers and HV bias supplies.
• Knowledge of isolation design, creepage/clearance, corona/ partial discharge mitigation, insulation systems and potting/encapsulation design.
• Experience in HV measurement techniques, and lab equipment (HV probes, scopes, etc.).
• High reliability Industry experience, i.e., medical, industrial, automotive, or aerospace.
• Project/change management credentials (PMP, Prince2) or equivalent.

Success Metrics

• Reduction in field failure rate and RMAs.
• On-time closure of ECNs/ECOs with reduced cycle time.
• Obsolescence risk mitigated with approved alternates.
• Cost savings via value engineering without impacting quality or compliance.  Manufacturing yield improvements and warranty cost reduction.
