Director, Government Affairs – Southeast Asia

A leading global company in the hi-tech sector is looking to appoint a Director of Government Affairs to lead its public policy and government engagement strategy across Southeast Asia.

About the role

This is a senior, strategic position responsible for shaping policy outcomes, building trusted relationships with government stakeholders, and aligning regional priorities with global objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the government affairs and public policy strategy across Southeast Asia
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government authorities, regulators, and key stakeholders
  • Monitor and influence regulatory and political developments impacting the business
  • Drive engagement initiatives in priority markets to support growth and mitigate risks
  • Partner closely with regional and global teams in a matrix environment

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or regulatory roles
  • Proven leadership experience (7+ years managing teams or regional scope)
  • Strong understanding of Southeast Asia’s political and regulatory landscape
  • Experience within a multinational environment
  • Background in government or policy-related roles is a plus
  • Demonstrated track record of influencing policy and engaging senior stakeholders
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a cross-cultural, matrix organization
  • Fluent in English; additional Asian language is an advantage
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (Master’s/PhD) preferred
