Responsibilities:
Operational Execution & Coordination
1. Supervise and coordinate airfield electrical and lighting activities during the shift and ensure assigned work is executed safely and completed as planned
2. Assign daily tasks to technicians and monitor progress to ensure work is carried out effectively within the shift.
3. Respond to lighting and electrical faults during operations and guide technicians in restoring systems, ensuring issues are addressed with the required timeframes.
4. Coordinate on-shift activities with Airside operations, AOCC and other engineering teams to support safe and smooth airport operations.
5. Provide clear and accurate shift handovers, including system status, outstanding issues, and follow-up actions.
System Operations & Support
1. Ensure that routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of airfield lighting and associated electrical systems are carried out during the shift.
2. Lead and oversee installation, replacement, and minor upgrade works for lighting equipment, panels, cabling, and control systems within the approved work scope.
3. Ensure basic work records fault logs, and shift reports are maintained to support continuity, traceability and follow-up.
4. Guide technicians during fault identification and corrective actions for system issues encountered during the shift.
5. Ensure tools, spares, and equipment required for shift activities are available, serviceable and used correctly.
Team Leadership
1. Lead technicians on shift, ensuring clear task allocation, supervision, and adherence to pre-approved procedures and work schedules.
2. Provide on-the-job technical guidance and practical problem-solving support during work execution.
3. Coordinate the deployment of technicians based on shift priorities, emerging faults, and operational needs.
4. Provide on-the-job training and basic task-related coaching to support skill development and safe work practices
5. Identify and escalate risks, resource gaps or any unresolved issues in a timely manner to support safe operations and continuity across shifts.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Work Experience:
• Tertiary qualification (Diploma or technical qualification) in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred. Candidates with substantial relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
• 4-7 years of hands-on experience in electrical or lighting systems maintenance, preferably in airport, airfield, or a related field required. Prior experience leading or supervising a small team or shift is preferred.
• Sound working knowledge of electrical and airfield lighting systems, including the ability to interpret drawings, schematics and technical documentation
• Practical experience working with electrical or lighting infrastructure in live operational or safety-critical environments.
Certifications & Licenses:
• Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) or equivalent technical certification preferred.
• Electrical safety certifications or local electrical licenses preferred.
Airfield Electrical & Lighting Systems: Working knowledge of airfield lighting and electrical systems, including the ability to understand how individual components function together, identify abnormal behavior, and supervise technicians during inspections, maintenance, and fault resolution. Able to make practical on-shift decisions to restore systems and maintain availability.
Operational & Safety Compliance: Strong understanding of SOP-driven operations, safety controls, and regulatory requirements.
Fault Diagnosis & Problem Solving: Ability to use a structured approach to troubleshoot and restore services under time pressure.
Team Supervision & On-Shift Leadership: Capability to manage technicians during live operations by providing clear instructions, oversight, and real-time guidance. Ensures technicians understand their tasks, work safely, and deliver expected outcomes while maintaining discipline and accountability within the shift.
