JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview:
Responsible for managing all production operations at the handbag manufacturing facility, ensuring on-time delivery within quality standards and budgetary parameters. Continuously improve manufacturing processes specific to the leather goods and handbag industry, while balancing production requirements with company and employee development needs.
Key Accountabilities
A. Production Management
– Direct and oversee all production activities (cutting, sewing, assembly, finishing) to achieve output, quality and delivery targets.
– Develop weekly/monthly production plans based on orders, machine capacity and manpower; allocate resources efficiently across production lines.
– Monitor and control labor costs, raw materials (leather, lining fabric, metal hardware, etc.) and overhead expenses to identify trends and develop improvement plans.
– Collaborate closely with Merchandising, QA/QC, Warehouse and Engineering to ensure all customer requirements are fully met.
– Resolve production issues (quality defects, material shortages, equipment breakdowns) promptly and effectively.
B. Process Improvement
– Lead process improvement initiatives to increase throughput, reduce waste and improve product quality.
– Analyze existing and in-development products to identify improvement opportunities in sewing techniques, bag construction and line efficiency.
– Research and implement industry best practices in handbag manufacturing.
C. People Management & Team Development
– Maintain corporate discipline, company policies and procedures to create a productive, organized, clean and safe work environment.
– Partner with HR to plan training, assess competencies and develop career paths for line leaders and skilled workers.
Qualifications
Education
– Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Garment/Leather Technology or related field. Master's degree
Experience
– Minimum 5-8 years of experience managing a manufacturing facility.
– Preferred: candidates with experience in handbag / leather goods or footwear manufacturing.
– Proven track record of increasing productivity, improving quality and consistently meeting delivery deadlines.
Knowledge
– Thorough understanding of handbag production processes: cutting, sewing lines, hardware assembly, finishing and packaging.
– Knowledge of materials: genuine leather, synthetic leather (PU/PVC), canvas, lining fabric, thread, zippers, rivets, etc.
– Familiar with international quality standards and fashion brand compliance requirements.
Skills & Abilities
– Excellent organizational and planning skills; ability to manage multiple priorities in a high pressure environment.
– Strong decision-making and follow-through skills.
– Ability to communicate effectively with all organizational levels — from workers to management and international buyers.
– Skilled in conflict management and flexible problem-solving.
– Good English communication skills; able to read technical documents and work with international buyers/partners.
