From Downtime to Delivery: Mechanical Engineering Experts Hiring Solutions That Help You Stay Ahead

Mechanical engineering experts collaborating on production line optimization in a high-tech manufacturing facility.

Vietnam’s manufacturing and engineering sectors are undergoing rapid transformation, driven by smart factories, Industry 4.0 adoption, and the rising demand for sustainable production. For businesses entering or scaling in this market, advanced technology alone isn’t enough - success depends on having skilled technical workforce to operate and optimize these systems

Meanwhile, Vietnam is evolving rapidly from an attractive destination to a high-tech manufacturing hub in the global supply chain. The numbers speak for themselves: in the first nine months of 2025, Vietnam attracted $28.54 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI), up 15.2% year-over-year, marking the highest level in five years.

The manufacturing and processing sector remains the top magnet for this capital flow, accounting for $7.27 billion, or 58.7% of all newly registered FDI. For industrial and manufacturing enterprises, this surge means one thing: competition for skilled mechanical engineering talent is intensifying.

This insightful article will show you the key hiring trends and workforce challenges in Vietnam, why mechanical engineering professionals are the cornerstone of operational success, and how partnering with the right mechanical engineering recruitment agency can help your organization thrive and scale sustainably in Vietnam’s competitive industrial sector.

Industrial workforce demand in Vietnam by region

According to the Institute of State Organizational and Labour Sciences, technical role is among the top 5 occupations with the highest recruitment demand in Q1 2025. This includes engineering workers, processing technicians, machine and equipment operators, or assembly workers.

As Yen Dao (Elise), Senior Sales Manager at Manpower Vietnam shared at METALEX 2025 recently, mechanical and engineering hiring needs vary significantly across regions. Northern Vietnam is experiencing high demand for skilled labor, especially in mechanical and engineering roles, driven by the strong development of industrial zones and ongoing technological innovation. Key provinces such as Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, and Quang Ninh have become major hiring hubs. Employers are facing a shortage of qualified engineering talent, particularly bilingual candidates fluent in English and Chinese, while rising salary expectations-fueled by intense competition among FDI companies-are reshaping recruitment strategies.

In central Vietnam, there's a notable shortage of talent, especially those with technical and language skills. The region is also seeing growing interest from electronics and supporting industries, signaling potential future expansion. Meanwhile, Da Nang and Quang Nam remain relatively stable with limited hiring demand.

Southern Vietnam has a large available talent pool in the manufacturing sector, partly due to workforce reductions in several major corporations. Hiring demand remains stable in key provinces such as Dong Nai, Long An, and Tay Ninh. Notably, in Ho Chi Minh City, the mechanical engineering industry accounts for 4.59% of total workforce demand, reflecting its continued relevance in the region’s industrial landscape,” Yen Dao added.

Workforce challenges in mechanical engineering

Despite growth opportunities, enterprises in Vietnam’s manufacturing sector face several critical workforce challenges:

1. Shortage of skilled mechanical engineers.

Demand for skilled engineers and technicians continues to rise, but the supply of qualified professionals remains limited. Our latest survey shows that 32% of employers across APAC struggle to fill technical roles - a challenge that resonates strongly in Vietnam.

29.3% of current Vietnam jobseekers are College and intermediate graduate, over two third of the recruitment demand by employers (40.4%). Meanwhile, 19.9% of jobseekers lack certificates or degrees - nearly three times higher than the actual demand for unskilled workers from enterprises, which stands at just 6.7%.

2. Retention issues

Manufacturing roles often face high attrition rates, which disrupt projects and slow down production. Retention has become as big a challenge as recruitment. To address retention matter, industrial companies in Vietnam have rolled out competitive remuneration packages, especially bonus schemes for new hires, covering both full-time employees and temporary staff.

3. Compliance and safety risks

In high-risk environments, insufficiently trained staff can compromise both safety and productivity. Meanwhile, poor employee management, particularly across a diverse workforce, can expose industrial businesses to compliance risks, damaging brand reputation and potentially leading to legal penalties.

Without addressing these workforce gaps, businesses risk reduced competitiveness, project delays, and missed growth opportunities.
