Product Engineer (Toy Industry)

Position: Product Engineer

Location: Vietnam
Department: Engineering / Product Development
Reporting to: Engineering Manager / Product Development Manager

Job Summary

The Product Engineer will be responsible for developing and industrializing toy products from concept through mass production. The role requires strong 3D CAD design capability, product engineering knowledge, prototyping experience, and close collaboration with customers, tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure products meet design, safety, cost, and production requirements.

Candidates from the toy industry, consumer products, plastic products, model kits, promotional products, or related manufacturing environments are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Engineering

• Convert customer concepts, sketches, and specifications into production-ready designs.
• Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
• Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews to optimize product functionality, manufacturability, and cost.
• Support new product development (NPI) from concept through production launch.

3D Design & Technical Documentation

• Develop complete 3D CAD models using software such as:
  • SolidWorks
  • Creo
  • Siemens NX
  • CATIA
  • Rhino (preferred)
• Generate 2D drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and technical specifications.
• Prepare 3D files for prototyping, mold development, and production.

Prototype & Tooling Support

• Coordinate prototype builds, sample evaluations, and engineering validation.
• Work with tooling teams on mold design and modifications.
• Analyze moldability issues and recommend engineering improvements.
• Support pilot runs and production troubleshooting.

Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

• Collaborate with Production, Tooling, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
• Resolve engineering issues during trial and mass production.
• Drive product cost reduction, value engineering, and process improvements.
• Review product changes and implement engineering change orders (ECOs).

Compliance & Quality

• Ensure compliance with toy safety requirements:
  • ASTM F963
  • EN71
  • CPSIA
  • ISO-related standards
• Support risk assessment, testing, and product certification activities.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or related disciplines.

Experience

• 3-8 years of experience in product engineering or product development.
• Experience in:
  • Toy manufacturing
  • Plastic injection products
  • Consumer goods
  • Educational toys
  • Model kits
  • Children's products

Technical Skills

• Strong 3D CAD capability.
• Proficiency with one or more:
  • SolidWorks
  • Creo
  • CATIA
  • Siemens NX
  • Rhino
• Knowledge of:
  • Plastic injection molding
  • Tooling & mold design
  • Product structure design
  • BOM management
  • Engineering change management

Language

• English communication skills for technical discussions with customers and overseas engineering teams.
• Chinese is a major advantage.

Soft Skills

• Strong problem-solving ability.
• Detail-oriented and hands-on.
• Able to work independently and manage multiple projects.
• Effective cross-functional communication.
